Mandala Theatre-Nepal acquired a mobile theatre bus in 2016. Supported by the Civil Peace Service program of GIZ, Mandala Theatre-Nepal obtained a truck and re-constructed the vehicle into a mobile theatre bus, so that communities without access to regular theatre halls and performances are able to attend relevant performances and cultural events. The mobile theatre bus is named Junkiri (the firefly) and has been used to take theatrical performances to different remote parts of the country.
Junkiri is a multipurpose theatre bus. With the hydraulic operating system, the body of the vehicle is foldable, expandable and totally safe and insured. Junkiri is used in Kathmandu Valley in summer and outside of the valley in winter. It can be used as both a closed theatre as well as an open stage with the flexible folding system. We can transform Junkiri into a black box for children and or an open platform for adults. The vehicle is operated by a driver and a technical manager.
Junkiri, the mobile theatre bus, also can be rented for different artistic and cultural programs. Many of the Nepali film producing companies have hired this bus to use the stage for their films’ promotion in different parts of Nepal. Junkiri has also been used by different art companies and groups to launch their products and programs in remote parts of Nepal.
