Rhythm of Memories is a poetic musical theatre performance developed by artists of Mandala Theatre-Nepal, specially to stage during the event Memory 30th August.
For this production, Mandala Theatre-Nepal formed a group of 10-12 theatre artists who have skills on poetry writing, music and acting. The group met with different conflict victims and/or their families (disappeared, killed, sexually abused, disabled and displaced) and wrote poems based on their experiences. After getting permission from the teller, the group started adapting the poems into theatre act by combining live music and physical movements. The production will be staged on the day of 30th August, 2024 using English subtitles for the poems.
Before and after the performance, audiences are invited to watch paintings, photos, videos and documentaries of past events at Mandala premises. Opportunities for informal interactions, networking and expressing solidarities will be provided during the event.
Memory 30th August is a program conceived together by theatre artists, activists and family members of peoples who were made disappeared during the decade long armed conflict in Nepal to commemorate the international day against enforced disappearance.
Mandala Theatre-Nepal has been organizing various programs on this day since 2015. In close coordination with the family members and other stakeholders, Mandala invites artists, activists and mass audiences to a common platform to express their solidarity on the issues of family through artistic expressions.
